1. Be sure to pay attention to washing instructions when cleaning baby clothing. Most baby clothing is machine washable. Certain products, such as bleach, may or may not be used. Although it is very rare to find baby clothing which requires dry cleaning, it is important to double check before drying baby clothing.

2. Consider purchasing organic baby clothes. Although cotton is an ideal material due to its softness, organically grown cotton is much more ideal. It does not contain all of the chemicals, including pesticides and herbicides, which are found in regular cotton. These chemicals can be very harmful and may be absorbed by the skin.  

3. What’s not to love about onesies? They are one of the most valuable purchases that new parents can make. Changing diapers is incredibly easy because they are so easy to access. Onesies come in both short and long sleeve varieties. Due to the fact that they are so lightweight, they are an ideal choice for layering, but can also be worn by themselves.  

4. In the winter, it is important for babies to wear mittens or gloves to keep their hands warm. Mittens tend to be the best choice because they are easier to get on and off. Make sure that there are no hanging threads, however. Your baby will be very frustrated if his fingers get stuck inside the mitten.

5. When trying to decide on sock weight, be sure to consider the temperature and season. Heavier socks are more ideal when it is cold out. Lightweight socks are best for summer because they will prevent the baby from sweating. Of course, there are many situations during the summertime when socks are not even necessary.  

6. Safety is one of the most important things to consider when shopping for baby clothes. Sweatshirts with drawstrings, for example, should be avoided because they are a strangulation hazard. It is also important to avoid clothing that has ribbons, pieces which detach, and buttons that may cause your baby to choke.

7. Sun hats are one of the most important baby summer wear purchases that you will make. Babies have very sensitive skin which should not be exposed to the sun. This type of hat will prevent harmful rays from burning your baby’s skin. Also think about using an umbrella when outdoors with your baby on a very sunny day.

8. During the months of winter, it is a good idea to put a hat on your baby. Beanies are the best choice because they convey the great amount of thermal heat. The reason is because the head is the body’s temperature control center. Keeping your baby’s head warm during the winter will help ensure that his whole body stays warm.  

9. When purchasing preemie baby clothing, heat is the most important factor to take into consideration. Preemie babies cannot maintain body heat as much as babies that are not preemies. Multiple layers of clothing is one of the best ways to keep preemie babies warm. They should also wear socks throughout the year, as well as hats and mittens during winter.

10. Overheating is a common problem among babies during the months of summer. Lighter layers and no socks during the day will keep your baby lighter. At night, your baby may be able to wear lighter clothing than during the months of winter, but also slightly heavier than what he wears during the day.  

11. When choosing a pair of baby jeans, you have many color options available to select from. Although light wash jeans look nice, it is a good idea to purchase mainly dark baby jeans. The reason is because babies are prone to accidents, and dark jeans will do a much better job hiding any potential stains.  

12. It is a common misconception that boys need to wear baby clothing that is blue. Although it is likely that you will end up incorporating some blue clothing into your baby’s layette, there are other color options available for you to choose from. Forest green, brown, and red are all very popular choices.

13. Trying to decide between baby winter coats and snowsuits? Keep in mind that snowsuits offer more protection, but winter coats are easier to get the baby in and out of. This means that changing diapers is easier with a coat. Consider how much time your baby will be spending outside. If, like most infants, your baby is only going to be outside when you are running errands, a mid-weight winter coat is ideal.  

14. Winter coats which are too restrictive can make it difficult for your baby to sit comfortably and safely in a baby car seat. Try to opt for a baby winter coat that is slightly bigger so that the baby can move around easier. Also, be sure to opt for a mid-weight winter coat instead of a heavy-weight one in order to make sure this is not a problem.  

15. Weight is one of the easiest ways to determine the quality of a pair of baby pants. Heavier pants will not only last longer, but they will also keep your baby warmer. That said, it is important to remember that heavy weight baby pants should not be worn throughout the whole entire year. Lightweight pants and shorts are essential for the warmer months.

16. It is always a good idea to select baby clothing that is slightly larger than needed. Opting for a size bigger than what your baby really wears will ensure that there is room for your baby to grow, which means that it will last longer and be more cost effective. Bigger sizes will also allow room for shrinkage, which is common among cotton clothing.  

17. Every baby needs playwear clothing. The reason? Babies absolutely love sliding across the floor, playing in messy substances, and doing other things which can damage to their daywear clothing. To prevent stains and tears, the best thing that you can do is choose a durable outfit. One that is dark will hide stains and one that is heavier weight will be less likely to rip.

18. One of the factors that should be considered when purchasing baby clothing is whether or not it is fire retardant. While it is unlikely that your baby’s whole entire wardrobe will be fire retardant, it is important to look for as many fire retardant pieces as possible. The clothing that your baby sleeps in should at least be fire retardant.

19. Avoid purchasing baby clothes too far in advance. Although you will want to opt for sizes that are slightly bigger so that your baby can grow into them, you will not want to buy clothes for November in January. There is no way to telling how much your baby is going to grow between now and then.

20. Many people feel that they need to spend a lot of money in order to find baby clothing that is very fashionable. This is not the case, however. In fact, it is much better to find cheaper baby clothing pieces that resemble designer baby clothing. Not only will it save you money, but babies grow so fast and get so dirty that spending too much on baby clothing will be a complete waste.
